Angelina Jolie visited Syria in her role as the goodwill ambassador of the UN’s refugee agency UNHCR (United Nations High Commission for Refugees). According to a UNHCR statement, she said "Most Iraqi refugees cannot return to Iraq in view of the severe trauma they experienced there, the uncertainty linked to the coming Iraqi elections, the security issues and the lack of basic services.... They will, therefore, be in need of continued support from the international community." She also met refugees in Iraq two months ago and visited Somali refugees in Africa recently. |
